It's true, everything in moderation, but I have a good friend who has Type 1 diabetes. 6'4" and 175 lbs. He has to stay away from caffeine because it can block the effectiveness of his insulin shots, but fake sugar isn't the problem when it comes to diabetes (as far as I know).
Type I diabetes is far more rare (correct me if I'm wrong on this BE) and is in the genes. Type II is the kind you get from being a fat pig. I believe there are far more cases of type II than type I, and it's because people are fat fucks.

So if aspartame helps you avoid getting diabetes, fucking go for it. horo has it right on the money; there are bigger killers out there than potential aspartame cancer.

I believe the whole cancer thing is because wood alcohol is in it or used in it or something and that shite is linked to cancer. I read about it longtime ago.

Besides pop tastes like shite anyways. diet or not.

ohh but hey Cancer is now taking the lead in the #1 killer in north america beating out heart disease....

had to do with diet soda. That is what this thread is about. I now get the connection. Still could have clarified it for me, as I thought I had asked nicely, instead of "/sigh".

But, whatever. It's all worked out now.

Was this the original question? I thought it was more of a "Is aspartame safe to drink?" kind of deal. My impression is that many of the side effects of consuming aspartame are less severe than CANCER but unhealthy nonetheless.

that's just one theory. it could be viral or genetic.

lots of diabetics end up being amputees (feet/legs) due to serum leakage and die younger than they should.

Good point. Corellation does not equal causality.

Just because a lot of fat fucks get type II diabetes does not mean that type II diabetes is caused by being a fat fuck.

However, I doubt that type II is genetic unless it is tied to the rumored obesisty gene; that would connect the two together nicely. Otherwise the data is skewed too far toward fatties to be determined before birth.

Wasn't it ex CEO of the company that made aspartame, Donald Rumsfeld that got it FDA approval with a bit of jiggery pokery (appointing a new FDA commisioner that would approve it), after 16 years of no approval because of some dodgy fraud investigation.

I don't trust anything that shady fucker did.

Also - I think there was some Spanish research that found it put holes in mice's brains, or did something bad to them.

All I drink is diet pop. Whenever anyone tells me that it's worse for me than regular (which they tell me five times a day) I call them fat fucks and tell them to mind their own business. It makes me chuckle.

Hurray for aspartame, whether it causes cancer or not!

I couldn't find any info on when it was approved in each country of Europe except that the EC's Scientific Committee for Food evaluated it in 1984

US 1981 - approved it for dry food, 1983 for drink, 1996 for anything

UK 1982 - Approved by Paul Turner from the UK Food Standards Agency who got his research funding from a partner company of Searle

The more I read about aspartame the dodgier it is
