you get food and lodging if you're at war, otherwise they deduct it.

some of the TA out there are on 30 a day ($60) or less.

(TA = weekend warriors)

Don't forget plastic silverware with food items.
Put liquids and scented items in Zip Lock bags just in case!

In order for you to keep the shipping costs down, you can use a Priority Mail Flat Rate Box. When shipping in one of these boxes (there are two sizes), whatever you can fit in the box, regardless of the rate, is $8.10!! You can pick these boxes up at your local post office. You will need to fill out a Customs Declaration From (Form 2976-A).

As most of you know, I'm in the US Air Force. I'm connected with a group called "Soldiers Angels". This group supports troops in Iraq and Afgahniland. They'll be more than happy to hook you up with one or more troops overseas. Also they have spots on the website that you can buy a kit and they'll put it together and send it to a troop/s that need it the most with your name attached. Hope this helps some people who want to help.

Unhappy Good Fucking Grief

I'm not asking for handouts for the guy; I'm asking for a simple act of appreciation, emotional support, kindness if you will; a note or card or a recording if you have the kind of music he likes.

Have you guys all been hanging out with creepy guy or what? Wait, I take that back, creepy guy is probably emotionally mature enough to have compassion for a guy who will be spending christmas in the middle of a war zone thousands of miles from home.

If you don't get it, just ignore this thread and move on.

Jesus.

Ok if we want to send something to Sgt Vela can we say his name came up on our community forums? I just think it might seem a little odd to him if he starts getting packages from strangers.

Sure. But I am only asking for notes/cards or music, not anything else. (If you want to send something else, I think it would be OK, but be clear, this is not what I am asking for.)

You can say his sponsor was asking for a christmas surprise.

Thanks.

I mentioned it in my letter. Just told him that someone put him up for adoption in this group. I'm sure they don't mind.

Well, I don't wish him any harm, but I can't say I appreciate him.
You clearly have lots of compassion for the poor employees of the biggest army, of the richest nation.

This is my compassion, www.amnesty.org.

I know where you're coming from dude, but it's not the fault of the guy on the front line.

He's just trying to put food on his family's table, I don't think he was asked his political thoughts on going to war.
