I feel much better now that Harris is not only running but that everyone is on board and behind her. I was really afraid it was going to be another 2016 and 2020 situation where 20 other people tried to throw their hats in when there is so little time from now until election. I hope that America as a whole can loosen the racism to see that Harris is the only choice for this country. It amazes me that the Republicans party is supporting Trump so hard after everything he did. Including the fact that he is a convicted felon. We all know that if Obama had recently been convicted of a felony there’s no WAY he would have been nominated. I don’t understand how people can’t see how awful Trump is and how HE DOESNT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT ANYONE UNLESS THEY ARE RICH WHITE MEN WHO CAN BENEFIT HIM. The people supporting him the hardest aren’t in that category. It is so frustrating that there are people acting like this is till a republican versus democrat when it is reasonable person versus a tyrant who has done awful things and is very vocal about his intention to do more horrific shit- especially because the Supreme Court is basically green lighting him!

Great show, as always. But I need the jump in and defend Microsoft for the misinformation being spread around. (Yeah, nerd alert, sorry.)

If you're interested in what really happened, read on.

Recall back in the '90's, MSFT was found to be a monopoly. The European Union cited that ruling a few years ago and demanded Microsoft allow 3rd party virus software, browsers, etc, to be installed. We made that change. What that meant was, Windows users were no longer forced to use the built-in virus program (Defender). Instead, they could install something else, or turn it off completely.

Keeping it very high level here, there are 2 different security levels of code. User mode is stuff you start, like Outlook, or Chrome, or whatever. If that crashes you might lose data, but Windows protects itself and keeps running.

Kernel mode, where stuff like virus software runs, is at a level Windows can't protect against. So that stuff HAS to be solid, otherwise Windows crashes. Very few things are allowed to run at kernel mode, for this reason.

CrowdStrike didn't test their update, which runs at kernel level, so their bug was able to crash Windows.

To put this is very simple to understand terms, if you fill your gas tank with water, your car will not run. Is that Ford's fault?

The reason only 8.5M computers crashed is because those machines switched their virus software to CrowdStrike instead of Defender. Had this been a Windows bug, it would have impacted 1.4B Windows machines.
