the number of the beans

666 is the mark of the beast according to most Christian stuff. The number is already here in widespread use. There has been a long debate about the popular UPC barcode found on almost every product you buy translating as 666. Made most famous in the excellent film Naked.

Of course researchers earlier this year said the number had been mistranslated and it's actually 616.

And that kind of fucks up the plot of The Omen.

Sleeping Keith

Sounds like Keith may have what is called Sleep Apnea. That is a condition where people when they sleep stop breathing for a few seconds. Risk factors include being male, overweight, and over the age of forty, but sleep apnea can strike anyone at any age, even children. Alchohol can also increase sleep apnea. Alchohol is a depressant and could be increasing the relaxation of the soft palet which would increase sleep apnea. You can visit http://www.sleepapnea.org/ for a bit more info.

Agnosticism is the philosophical view that the truth values of certain claimsparticularly theological claims regarding the existence of God, gods, or deitiesare unknown, inherently unknowable, or incoherent, and therefore, (some agnostics may go as far to say) irrelevant to life. The term and the related agnostic were coined by Thomas Henry Huxley in 1869, and are also used to describe those who are unconvinced or noncommittal about the existence of deities as well as other matters of religion. The word agnostic comes from the Greek a (without) and gnosis (knowledge). Agnosticism is not to be confused with a view specifically opposing the doctrine of gnosis and Gnosticismthese are religious concepts that are not generally related to agnosticism.

Agnosticism is distinct from strong atheism (also called positive atheism), which denies the existence of any deities. However, the more general variety of atheism, weak atheism (also called negative atheism, and sometimes neutral atheism), professes only a lack of belief in a god or gods.

Agnostics may claim that it isn't possible to have absolute or certain spiritual knowledge or, alternatively, that while certainty may be possible, they personally have no such knowledge. Agnosticism in both cases involves some form of skepticism towards religious statements.

Some claim that there is nothing distinctive in being an agnostic because even theists do not claim to know God exists, only to believe it; and atheists do not claim to know there is no God, only to not believe in one.

The Texas evacuation plan from the coast is not because they "Don't want to fuck up again." It is how we've done it in Texas for several decades.

The plan calls for staggered evacuations starting with those with no transportation first and then the rest of a city.

Texas also has the man power beyond other states to forceablely evacuate people from certain areas.

Often in situations like this the governor will put the Texas Rangers into service to run the evacuation over wide areas of the state.

Currently the entire cities of Gallveston and Corpus Christie are emtpy with only essential personell left (i.e. government officials.

Also, what most people don't know is that Texas actually staffs its own military known as the Texas Army National Guard. These are Texs spacific troops under the command of the governor.

The governor also seeded disaster planning power to the president early Wednesday morning...something Louisiana waited for three days after the storm passed to do.

Many of the reasons Texas can do this dates back to the 1870's when it was readmitted to the union. For example, Texas leases most of its land to the federal government instead of letting them have it like some states, and Texas can also divide itself into five separate states. We have far more freedom to do things and move people here in Texas than most people realize.

In all honesty once the hurricane reaches Houston it will begin to weakin fast since at that point there's no water for miles and miles...heck the next thing of significants past Houston is the fucking desert.

Even though many people act think and behave like Agnistics they still find it very hard to admit that they are not the Jews, Christians, Muslims etc. etc. that their families brought them up to be. Fear of pissing the family off is a big one.

What would you then call a person who believes in a supreme / possibly collective power that doesn't necessarily abide by any specific religious sect or dogmas?

Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

I personally am thinking about converting to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I especially like the idea of every Friday being a holiday and pirate uniforms. I also enjoy the WWFSMD? (What Would Flying Spaghetti Monster Do?) t-shirts. Here is the official site: www.venganza.org Loved the show as usual.

Question for Keith or Chemda

Are you familiar with the movie theatre on Main Street in Flushing? Is it still around? If so, do they still have "Wacky Wednesday's"? If so, how great is that deal!!

I thought about that when you talked about how in the theatre you were at you mentioned the screen isn't much bigger than a tv set.

Anyway, glad to hear you feeling better, Keith, and getting back to tackling the big issues, religion, and such, etc.

I am in this poker game friday, even though it will be 3AM my time.

Take it sleazy,

Deuce Diggy
