Great episode.
Also, RIP comedian Dan Ronan. Here's a nice article with a hilarious video of one of his characters: Joe McAdam is a charming man. - Dan Ronan. |

If the post office where to privatize you would have an unlimited amount of delivery people in your mailbox everyday. The sanctity of the mail would be compromised and it would be a giant mess. Also, when you move or put your mail on hold, you would have to notify all of those entities and your mail would never get to you. .Unlike the car industry, the post office has not been bailed out and they don't want us to be. If it goes private, there are a lot of companies that could make a lot of money by having access to your mailbox.
Trust me, you don't want to privatize the post office. Also, if the post office were not being forced to pre-fund their retirement accounts, as mandated by Congress, we would be making a profit and you would not be hearing all this noise about how awful we are as a business. The package hunt is a bit ridiculous but I have to believe the issue is the volume of packages that your post offices deal with. Would you rather have notification to go and get your parcels or have them left on your door step for someone to steal? It is not always a perfect system but we do our best, at least in the small town like the one I deliver in. ps the clerks up front should have no reflection on the awesome carriers out there getting it done everyday! |

Leave a note for your carrier and tell them that and they should leave it for you. Also, when you order stuff sometimes you can check a box that states "leave package if there is no response". You would be surprised about the number of nasty calls and notes we get about people super pissed about lost or stolen stuff. Its a CYA for carriers to notify and return packages to the office. FYI
$10 bucks at Christmas goes a long way extra service (just kidding, I know how Chemda feels about this ) |

Yes, because that releases your carrier from getting into any trouble if the package comes up missing. Our rule is to notify unless given instructions from the customer to leave it. I'm not saying they will it but I do as long as I know my patron's are ok with me leaving it at their door. Maybe your carrier is just lazy and doesn't want to bring it to your door, that's an asshole move and we get paid by the hour so they should climb those stairs already.
Peace and Love, Peace and Love. Listening to this episode now, the only people that are not happy about your show time changing to Sundays is the mail carriers that work Saturdays. About 1/4 of the carriers in our small office (5) listen to your show and now we can't talk about it Saturday night when we are drinking around the bon fire. That being said, I'm a delayed gratification girl so I like the...... anticipation |
