You two are still cute together despite NOT being together for all these years. Miss hanging with you two.

Judge Judy, who sees quite a few ex-fiancées in her courtroom, always sides with the would-be groom regarding engagement rings. Her belief, and mine, is that the engagement ring is not a gift in the conventional sense, but one that is specifically linked to the engagement and upcoming wedding. If the engagement is off, he gets the ring back.

A stickier situation would be what to do if a couple did get married, but broke up shortly after, say within six months. The engagement, and its ring, are fresh in mind.

From a shadiness standpoint, it makes no sense for Clinton to have been shady for the past six weeks. She's had the Democratic nomination on something like 95% lockdown since March 15th, when she effectively eliminated Sanders from contention. I said it then: she developed a campaign strategy designed around opening up a delegate lead that would simply be impossible to close provided she kept it close. She's barely been engaging Sanders since then, and for good reason. A boxer winning on points through eight rounds doesn't need a knockout, and neither did she.

I don't love Hillary, but I've got to wonder at what point sexism comes into play with something as competitive as politics. She's a politician, and our expectations regarding acceptable limits within competition for men and women are just different. Maybe that causes people to bite more on (later debunked) theories like this.

there's a good bit of sexism that we can't call a piece of shit a piece of shit because she's a woman. these after the fact mental leaps and justifications why it "won't be so bad" smacks of cognitive dissonance. didn't like her then, don't like her now and i won't begrudgingly leap on the back pedal bandwagon.

I honestly don't even think of her as a woman. This is not a dig at her being unfeminine or unattractive. She's just Hillary Clinton. She's always been there.

That's not what I said. I said that politics is a competitive enterprise, and women are viewed more negatively in our society for engaging in competitive endeavors. It's not a mental leap to wonder why people latch onto (later disproved) conspiracies about a woman running for the office of the president, especially when these conspiracies don't make sense on their face.

None of that makes Hillary Clinton a good person or a candidate worthy of your vote. The super fun thing about ingrained prejudices is that they don't just do damage to angels.

As a teenager (20 years ago) I remember my friend (who had a relative in a union) was paid cash money every year to go around our city tearing down posters of rival politicians. (Rivals being whoever his relative told him it was because what 15 year old gives a shit about politics?) It's corruption and gross and it's been happening forever on a large and small scale.

If you don't want to be with this person why would you want the ring unless you just want it for the monetary value which makes you a shitty person. Give the guy the ring back!
