The idea Hera Again brought up on people being “too close” to something to assess racism or transphobia is equally ridiculous. At the same time, I can appreciate that some of us are bewildered at some of the others qualifying this as transphobia.
I get what you’re saying. I just think human beings and their interactions are complex.

I'm not sure how much work folks here have done around transphobia and other isms but leading Trans scholars and thought leaders (Janet Mock to name one) have fully asserted asking about a trans persons genitals is transphobic. Hell it is even in GLAAD's basic guidelines on how to be an ally. Yes the guest was trash, but the casual transphobia when you consider the rate that trans black are murdered every year is abysmal. I've been rocking with y'all for a loooong time. VIP almost from the get go. I cancelled my membership today when I realized "Why am I giving money to a straight white men who is so cavalier about his allyship when there are so many queer/poc podcasts I can support? I appreciate all the years of funny and I hope this latest gambit got you all more VIP subscriptions, but I am out.

You’re justifying your viewpoint by ignoring an important point. Kieth asked if he could ask questions about the surgery, she said yes without any qualification. Then she was offended. Keith was sensitive about the subject and asked permission to talk about it. That’s not transphobic.

Again to the point he doesn’t ask this question generally to transpeople but this person has a movie about Joe their life changed with this surgery.

Can I a white man ask a star from the movie jango unchained about the use of the n word in that movie. Can I ask about some points off the movie and the historical accuracies or inaccuracies? Can a star of that movie say in advance I don’t want to talk about that and maybe they should mention that in advance of the interview?

I think the answer is yes for both and it doesn’t make anyone racist or in the case of this show transphobic. Again Julia made a movie about it and was on this show to talk about it AND said she was okay talking about the surgery.

It’s not the job of every Transperson to explain being trans to non trans people, any more than it’s every black persona job to talk about this experience with racism. But it is the job of some people at their choice. If I can’t talk to Rev. Jesse Jackson about being black then yes you can’t ask Julia about trans either. Julia made a documentary about it and was on this show to talk about that documentary. I don’t walk up to Rev. Jackson on the street and say ‘What’s it like trying to get a home loan?’ And This didn’t happen to Julia either, she could have said no.

Also valid points!
This situation is like those pictures where you can see two images in them.
