I like Tolkien.

Oh wellz.

This is a ridiculous question, of course Lord of the Rings was a million times better than Doom.

You're in the majority.

I just think he was a mediocre verbose writer with a good taste for language but no storytelling abilities. He was more interested in creating a mythology than actually writing a readable work.

And i gave him plenty of chances.

It's okay, he's definitely not a writer I think everyone should like, I like that he made such a believable mythology, he put more work into that than possibly any other fantasy writer....I mean, if I'm not mistaken, he was actually really huge into mythology, maybe even a professor of it??? I did a paper on him forever ago...

It's just always sad when somebody doesn't like him.
The Hobbit is nostalgic as fuck.

You're 100% right, but to me the content is worth more than the presentation. I've read scores of technically better written books, but none of them have had the depth and impact Tolkien's work had.

I agree, i just cpouldnt force myself into reading it fully, let alone appreciate it. Too long winded and pompous.

Okay having seen Doom again. I will concede that perhaps it wasnt as good as I had built it up in my head.

Lord of the Rings was better than i remember but i think i'll need to read the books to appreciate it.

But still a good memory is a good memory.

On another note, these comments are hilarious

I'm not a LOTR nerd, but I did enjoy the films. It had its fair share of problems, but it was far more epic than any kind of movie based on Doom.
