I just started the first book of the codex of alera books which are written by jim butcher. If you like the dresden file the iron druid series is great fun funny lot of action like the dresden books based in modern day arizona.

I've been reading Daniel Woodrell lately. "Country noir" novels about white trash folks in the Ozarks. Meth, sex, alcohol, violence, poverty. His lead characters are good people dealt shitty hands, trying to do their best, not always successfully. And they're easy to read (the books, not the characters).

So far, I've read Tomato Red and Winter's Bone. Now I'm working on The Death of Sweet Mister.

As far as all time favorite books, anything by Ernest Hemingway or John O'Hara is worth reading. They wrote about real people in clear, easy-to-read prose. No egghead bullshit. They're old, but timeless.

Just finished ‘Drawn Together’, the comics by Robert Crumb and Aline Kominsky Crumb, and am inspired to go through the Crumb archives again. It was a deranged, vulgar, sexy, endearing and soulful collection.
