311: Shows 3896 - 3897

This week we talk about Christian wanting to define his relationship with Keith, J-L and Dan’s impressions, and people not being prepared to be a guest for a recording. We also had a special interview with one of these ill-prepared people. As Rod loves to say: Keith's misery our pleasure.

Guests:
Karen Morrow

Re: Gene Hackman-they said he had severe Alzheimer’s. I’ve worked with older adults for almost 15 years now and have seen all of the stages. When they severe they mean he is basically a shell of a person. He wouldn’t remember to eat nor how to, he wouldn’t be able to bathe or dress himself. He likely was in a disposable diaper because many lose control of their bodily functions. He likely wandered around the house until his heart gave out due to not taking his meds for 7 days/likely not eating or drinking during that time. I wasn’t a fan per se but when I found out how he died I cried. I will say he very likely wasn’t aware of anything that was going on at that time. He wouldn’t have been able to process what he was seeing nor be able to feel a certain way so he wasn’t aware that he was suffering/dying. I do wonder why it took 2 damn weeks to check in. Most of my patients have family and friends who call to check on them if not once a day then once a week at least. I imagine they had to have things delivered such as groceries/disposable underwear; medical supplies, dog food etc. what about the mail? It is always possible that they were very private people and those who loved and cared about them tried to respect that. But damn. I hope she had no awareness in the end because I can only imagine the panic she would have felt knowing that there wasn’t anyone who would know what was going on until much later.

One of the reasons I fell in love with my husband was how funny he is. We compete sometimes to see who can make the other laugh the hardest. Only thing I hate is that when he meets new people he turns into this fake persona and tells the same joke I’ve heard the last 20 years-and them LOOKS TO ME TO LAUGH. Like no, I’ve heard this joke too often, I know when you are putting a persona on and I don’t do pity laughs with him. He doesn’t give me pity laughs either. He unfortunately is actually funnier than I am and improves it in several different ways. Like fine asshole I’m not quitting my day job damn.

There’s no way I could be with someone who isn’t funny. Life is hard enough-we need levity. And we love dark humor which helps us cope.

First, I have to admit I am an intermittent vegan. Because, I don't eat and drink non-vegan items all day. So between eating the bacon for breakfast and the hamburger for lunch, I might be vegan for some of that time between. I do it for my health, and saving the animals for when I am hungry.
