As far as the cable lock, to my credit, these pictures were taken when I was living in my parents' house. I have two siblings who are 3 and 6, and they didn't own a safe. They're off now, it was just a precaution for the time being.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about keeping guns safe as long as kids are around. My handguns live in a small safe and my shotgun stays locked. I just use a combo padlock with a vinyl-coated hasp instead. Those cable locks are impossible to open.

And I live in Tulsa. I'm a bartender. Come out this weekend.

Now here's the gang!

12-gauge Mossberg Pump. 00-Buck, law-enforcement shells.

L to R: Ruger LCP .380; Glock 26 9mm; Glock 23 .40 cal; Smith & Wesson 642 .38sp; Walther P22 .22 cal.

Everybody should have a .22. I'm going to order a silencer (sorry, 'flash suppressor) for it soon. It's fun to shoot but it is a bitch to field strip and clean. Not easy to take apart and even harder to put back together. But it's accurate and fun. It's the only handgun that I don't carry. It's strictly for plinking at the range.

and hits

Marlin 1894C - a lever-action carbine chambered for 357 mag/38 spl.

Looks gay, but it's pretty nice.

Not really. It's funny how these things work. When I first walked into the gun store, I was really self-conscious and prudish. I didn't want a 'mean' or 'scary' looking firearm. Then I saw the Mossberg 500 Tactical Defender. Quite simply, it's badass looking and feeling, and I can claim that the sheer look of it acts as a deterrent. Oh, and functionally, it's no different from any other 12 gauge shotty.

Here's Mossberg's other 'home-defense' weapon:

I went with the collapsing stock because it's easier on the arm, yet compact enough to maneuver around corners and stuff. (You have to adopt a somewhat paranoid mentality to understand the rationality of firearm design.)

I'd recommend going to a few stores and talking to the dealers. Turns out most of them are really helpful peeps.

Combined post from myself and Mr. Galt:

SKS Carbine, Glock 17 9mm, Beretta 8000 9mm, S&W .38, Ruger .22 and my fancy little rib tickler.

You know, the basics.
