ipso facto if you get collecting pictures of the queen, then you don't get guns point being second amendment im just making fun, truth is i wish i could give you a rational explanation for guns and the second amendment, and there in lies the paradox, there cannot be a rational explanation because the need for arms is one based in fear, and fear is irrational you dont get guns, i dont get currency, but in the world we share we coexist with both make lemonade i will buy a cup |

Different kids of guns are used for different purposes. Just like a flathead screwdriver will handle many, but not all of your screwdriver needs; a shotgun will handle many, but not all of your firearms requirements.
Some of us are also shooting instructors, and we have several different types so that our students can learn on a suitable variety of arms. |

Some of the ones I own are for home defense, others for hunting, some are old war relics (the bolt action rifle I posted earlier in the thread was brought back from WW2 by my great grandfather, who took it from a nazi). And some are just for sport and fun. It's enjoyable to take the weapons to the range and do some target practice. It really is just like any other hobby. Some people knit, some collect glass elephants, some people build model cars. I shoot/collect firearms.

It's kind of different for me now though. The use of firearms is part of my job. I've worked with several different weapon systems from around the world. I've put hundreds of thousands of rounds downrange, if not more. The collecting side of firearms for me is more of a historical intrest. I own firearms that are part of history. For example, my M1 Garand was made in 1941 and was used in Europe throught WWII. The shooting side is to help me improve and maintain the knowledge of firearms that I have. For me, firearms are tools of the trade, and like any trade, practice makes prefect. Plus, shooting is just plain fun.

Need a little advice...
Hey gang- My Grandfather passed about 2 years ago and was an avid collector. He left his collection to be divided up between his kids and us grand kids. I thought some of you would have some good advice for a guy on what may be a couple of good guns for an infrequent shooter. Some of the available are: several Mosin Nagants (some scoped), several Swiss K31s (some scoped), several 308 Arisakas, Springfield M1903 with a sporterized stock, several Carcanos, a bunch of Mausers (Yougslavian, Argentine, Chilean, Spanish, Czech, and a few Lebels. I was thinking of the M1903. It is clean & never been scoped so it should be able to be converted back to original with some work. I was also thinking a K31 or a Spanish Mauser would be cool. Thanks for the help.

Since this thread has been revived, it seems, I'll chime in: I'm waiting for my pistol permit to be approved/mailed to me. While not as strict as the city itself, upstate New York also has a pretty stringent pistol policy. Full backround check, mugshots, fingerprints. The kind that takes months, not minutes, like Keith said in Monday's episode about Tennessee. That, and my county only offers a "sportsman" license, so unless you're on your way to/from a target range or hunting ground, they can't leave your house. I applied back in April. I probably won't get the permit itself before September.
