From wiki;

Mathcore

Mathcore (also known as technical metalcore, progressive metalcore, or noisecore) is a rhythmically complex and dissonant style of metalcore. Mathcore has its roots in bands like Converge,[1] Botch,[2][3] and the Dillinger Escape Plan.[4] The term mathcore is suggested by analogy with math rock. Both math rock and mathcore make use of unusual time signatures. Math rock groups such as Slint, Don Caballero, Shellac, and Drive Like Jehu have some influence on mathcore, though mathcore is more closely related to extreme metal. Prominent mathcore groups have been associated with grindcore.

Weird, i've always described bands like Dillinger Escape Plan as "fucked up carnival music". Mr Bungle was big on that crazy clown music. I guess i'll have to correct myself now to refer to it as "Fucked Up Carnival Music-core".

Never got into Mudvayne so I have no opinion on them.

I saw Dillinger Escape Plan open up for SOAD and I fucking hated them. No core involved, just shit!

Wiki article - couldn't it just be put simply - Progressive Metal?

I liked Dillinger's Calulating Infinity and a few tracks on the Miss Machine album and i was a rather huge fan of Mudvayne's LD.50.. but that was back in the day of Drowning Pool and Sevendust when metal was stagnet and only shit was being released. Then (IMO) Killswitch Engage came along and everyone copied, hence the birth of the Cores.

As i said before, i'd be happy going back to Black Metal, Death Metal, Metal and Hard Rock. All these different cores are retarded and gay.. especially since most of them are the same music. For example;

Death metal with growl vocals = deathcore
Death metal with screechy vocals = grindcore
Death metal with combo growl/screechy vocals = melodic death metal

It's all dumb.

unearth was fixin to be the best metal band ever for awhile there...but then they seemed to kinda die off a little...someone told me thier new album was awesome but i havnt had a chance to check anything out since the oncoming storm...could be i just moved to the east coast where there is no metal scene and i lost track...they were incredible when they were playing bars though...best pits ever.

darkest hour also puts on an awesome show and their first 2 discs were fuckin wicked.

I LOVE OPETH - love your avatar!

I can't get enough them - I saw them again last month and they were unreal. Can't wait to watch Lamentations on my new home theatre setup - still yet to get the Roundhouse Tapes DVD, I've got the CD and it's fantastic.

I don't think any of my friends would be into them because of the growling but they compliment it so well with their quiet passages that I enjoy both elements (the light and dark) to an insane degree.

Starting to get into Meshuggah more and more but some of their stuff, while techically mind baffling, is just too hard to enjoy. There's no easy groove to slot into which makes it hard for me to get what other music gives me (if that makes any sense). ObZen in incredible though.

Novembre, Mercenary, Mastadon, Killswitch, etc... really diggin them too.

My favorite band of all time has to be Windir. I'm also a big fan of stuff like Absu, Immortal, Nachtmystium (Black and Psychedelic), Kreator.

I've even got a soft spot for the folk stuff that has become painfully overdone. Especially Tyr recently.

I went to Wacken this year and man I had a blast. But the Press area isn't all you might think. I ended up camping in the general grounds anyway and only went back there a couple times to meet up with Lars and Arkadius. I saw Gaahl and started to approach him but he just did his little scowl and walked away. Now that he's out of the closet, I think he had a little crush on me. King is cool though.

I haven't really ever listened to anything harder than Pantera. But having a skateshop has opened me up a little.

Trivium's new album is great.

Older Cannibal Corpse is pretty good.

Cradle of Filth is ok, the higher pitched screaming I don't care for.

Any suggestions on some good bands with the low deep growl?
